Flower Prints

Looking for an easy nature craft for kids that’s full of color, texture, and hands-on fun? This flower print art project is a summer favorite and a perfect way to turn gathered blooms into beautiful, botanical artwork.

Kids will love every step of this simple craft—from collecting flowers to arranging them and (let’s be honest) enthusiastically smashing them with a hammer. It’s a joyful, sensory-rich way to create art using the natural world.

This has been my kid’s favorite outdoor art activity this summer—and for good reason. There’s something incredibly satisfying about pounding petals onto paper and seeing their vibrant colors transferred in real time.

Read on to see how we did it.

Supplies:

  • Heavy paper (watercolor paper works best for durability)

  • Freshly gathered flowers (soft blooms work best)

  • Wooden board or hard surface

  • Parchment or wax paper

  • Hammer

Directions:

  • Place your heavy paper on top of a sturdy wooden board or surface.

  • Let your child lay out their gathered blooms however they like—get creative!

  • Lay a sheet of parchment paper over the flower arrangement to keep petals from flying while you hammer.

  • Use a hammer to pound the flowers through the parchment and onto the paper. This is where the real fun begins!

  • Gently peel away the parchment paper and lift off the flower pieces to reveal a one-of-a-kind flower print.

Tip: Try experimenting with different flower types and colors to see which ones print best.
